Mr. Bandara is a seasoned professional with over 26 years of experience at the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) in the areas of financial system stability, economic and price stability, corporate services, agency functions, business continuity planning, enterprise-wide risk management and strategic planning.
Currently serving as an Assistant Governor of the CBSL, Mr. Bandara oversees several key departments, including Payments and Settlements, Information Technology, Supervision of Non-Bank Financial Institutions, and Foreign Exchange. He serves as the Chairman and Coordinator of the Business Continuity Planning (BCP) Committee and is a member of several high-level committees such as the Employees’ Provident Fund Investment Oversight Committee, Financial System Stability Committee, Non-Financial Risk Management Committee, Information Technology Oversight Committee, and the National Payment Council. He also participates as an observer of the Board Risk Oversight Committee.
Mr. Bandara has played a crucial role in the implementation of several important initiatives, including establishing the country’s financial systems communication network, implementing the electronic bidding systems for government securities, regulatory reporting and monitoring systems and implementing the national payments and securities settlement systems. He has also been involved in projects aimed at improving the country's financial market infrastructure.
With a strong educational background including a Master of Science Degree in Information Technology, a Bachelor of Technology Degree in Computer Science and a Diploma in Central Banking, Mr. Bandara brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to his roles. He is committed to contributing to the advancement of the country’s financial sector and has actively participated in initiatives of various professional organizations.
In addition to his professional responsibilities, Mr. Bandara is dedicated to contributing to the welfare of the community and has served in various capacities in committees and organizations aimed at education reform and technology development and adoption at a national level.
