Online Traffic Fine Payments Now Enabled via GovPay

A special press conference was held on the 11th April 2025 at the Department of Government Information to announce the launch of the pilot project enabling the online payment of traffic fines through GovPay.

The event was graced by multiple distinguished guests, including Hon. Bimal Ratnayake, Minister of Transport, Highways, Ports and Civil Aviation; Hon. Eranga Weeraratne, Deputy Minister of Digital Economy; DIG Indika Hapugoda, Road Safety and Traffic Division; Mr. Channa de Silva, CEO of LankaPay; Mr. Harsha Purasinghe, ICTA Board Member; and Mr. Harsha Bandara, Director General of Government Information.

This new initiative enables drivers to conveniently pay traffic fines anytime, anywhere, using digital banking platforms and FinTech apps connected to GovPay. The pilot phase is currently operational across 11 police stations from Kurunegala to Anuradhapura, with plans to expand the service island-wide in the near future. GovPay, introduced by the Ministry of Digital Economy, ICTA, and LankaPay, aims to digitize public services enhancing transparency, efficiency, and accountability. This development marks a significant step forward in improving citizen convenience and advancing Sri Lanka’s digital economy.

As the national payment network, LankaPay remains committed to making government services more accessible and citizen friendly. Currently, 30 government institutions are integrated with GovPay, with the goal of expanding to 100 institutions by the end of the year.
